Weight Loss Plateau Pain

October 24th 2007 10:11
I'll have to say, I am a little annoyed with this whole plateau thing that happens when you are trying to lose weight.

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) this year, some of the indicators being: excess weight that wont shift, bad skin, extra hairiness in places not previously hairy (cos being fat and pimply isn't enough you see, we must make you like an ape-woman say the PCOS monsters), pre-diabetic or diabetic, fertility problems, irregular periods and of course cysts on your ovaries. Oh, and it can also lead to various types of cancer, so yay me!

Anyways, I was told to try a low GI diet, which I did and lost 4 kgs in the first week - pretty rockin I thought. Then I steadily lost weight for a few months, to a grand total of 16 kgs.

Now I have been in a plateau for over two months and it is driving me CRAZY.
I exercise a lot, I eat healthily - so what is the problem?!?
I can't stand it, I just can't stand it! and let me tell you, I often wonder why I am bothering if I am not getting anywhere.
I have checked out a million websites (ok slight exaggeration, but I have looked at lots) for various tips, and they mostly tell me that it is the body's natural reaction. Apparently once you lose a bit of weight your body goes into protection mode and stops shedding weight - right because I am obviously starving - for pete's sake! What is my body thinking?! I mean I look much better than I did but I aint no buffed bod. (Though just quietly, I am getting more muscles)

SO the only tips I have come out with are:
* Change your exercise routine a bit
* Be stricter with your food
* Be consistent - i.e. no 'just a little bit' of chocolate every day(damn)

Its all easier said than done though - it is a constant battle to think positively and to keep focused on the end result.

If anyone has any tips that actually work, I am all ears!

I know exactly what you mean Miss Rabbit! You put in so much work for so long... you see the results.... you keep working and then all of a sudden you stop seeing those results... FRUSTRATING!! But maybe what you should focus on is that fact that the work you are doing is not fruitless. And do you know why? Because you aren't putting any weight on. Shouldn't it all be about lifestyle? If you are living the right lifestyle then you are doing the right thing. Even by your own admission you are getting more muscles so there are still changes going on. My tip to you is "don't give up". If you do, you will end up worse than where you were before. Just keep on being healthy and enjoy your life.
xx
