Glamour Gossip - February 2008

Aaah Cashmere, my precious..

February 15th 2008 10:47
So as I mentioned, I am getting into this whole investment wardrobe thing and on my journey of discovery of all things fashion, I have become obsessed with cashmere.
Cashmere dresses, cashmere coats, cashmere pants, cashmere cardigans, cashmere pashminas, cashmere sweaters, cashmere hoodies - you name it, I have drooled over it.
Hell, I think I would even get a little hot and heavy over cashmere earrings if such a thing existed or if it wasn't quite so ridiculous and pointless.
but back to the non-ridiculous cashmere...

I really urge you all to put a little cashmere into your life - it is so soft, so luxurious, so much better and warmer than wool and contrary to a few opinions, it doesn't itch. Now, I am a purist, so I am a 100% cashmere girl. There are some lovely silk/cashmere blends out there, but just quietly I think they are the itchy garments that people are referring too.

Now some of you may say, well Miss Rabbit cashmere is all very lovely, but isn't it expensive? The short answer my dumplings is yes, it can be. BUT the savvy little bargain hunter in me has trawled the internet and a few select shops and found some absolute steals.

Firstly, if you live in Melbourne, get your (soon to be soft and caressed) butt down to 8 Inkerman (go on, guess the address!!) in St Kilda. They have a fantastic range of contemporary styles - from sparkly embellishments on their sweaters to the most sexy, stylish and clingy cashmere dresses, AND they are having a sale at the moment.
Secondly, there is a fantastic website called www.shesellssanctuary.com.au that sells the most lovely and reasonably priced cashmere drawstring pants with tank top set, and it comes in a cute little cashmere bag AND they gift wrap it up all cute 'n stuff AND they are super speedy with the delivery.

If you have more cash to splash, you can try House of Cashmere in Collins Street (there's a store in Sydney too)- very expensive but they are having a sale on their coats at the moment, which trust me, are heaven - and an investment.

I must admit, I am very pleased with myself for getting into this cashmere yoke - I am all for the quality fabrics and long lasting items. And, I am feeling rather smug that the fashion magazines have started featuring a bit of cashmere - ooh am I 'on trend'??? I just come over all a-giggly just thinking about it.
I just wish it would get colder so that i can wear the damn things!

P.S Tell me if you have found any super cashmere bargains - I'd love to hear about it

Investment Dressing

February 5th 2008 09:17
So, in my last post I referred to my new co-obsession to buying useless fashion magazines, and that is - painstakingly putting together an investment wardrobe.

After years of detesting shopping, I am now beginning to understand why some (dare I say most) women are nuts about it (though I used to think nuts for enjoying it).
I mean, I always did go shopping and bought a lot of stuff, but it was really a depressing excursion of grabbing clothes off rack that 'probably will fit', refusing to try them on out of laziness, embarrassment and fear of those annoying, pushy salesgirls flinging open the changeroom door, yelling to the world "are you right for sizes?!" whilst my cellulitely and hairy legs (it would inevitably be between waxes) were wobbling in the breeze in front of a three way down-lit mirror (yech - they either put in fat mirrors with really bad lighting or those skinny lying arsey mirrors which make you look HOT at the shop and hideous in the reality of sunlight, in these places) which could be seen by not only the rest of the shoppers in the store, but the rest of the people in the shopping centre walking past.. not a pleasant experience.

So since losing weight, I am now kind of cautiously enjoying the shopping experience, and have decided that instead of wasting my money on ill-fitting and cheap fabric, I am going with the advice of all fashionistas, and embarking on the journey of the investment wardrobe.

Apparently your wardrobe should be 70% investment pieces and 30% seasonal pieces - or some such figure. I am probably making it up, but its around about how it should be. So translated, spend a bit of time and money (eek!) on some staple 'pieces' that will last you years and always be in style, and then add a few bits and pieces each season to keep you 'on trend'. Now I do hate those last two words, so I prefer to say - get a few good, classic pbits and bobs (trench coat, pants, white shirt etc) and then whack in a few of those fashion tragic yokes (only if they suit your shape mind you - I for one will never go near a trapeze dress or a tulip whatzamathingamy) and you'll be looking pretty darn spesh.

So in light of my newly turned fashion leaf, I have become rather enamoured of cashmere - and trust me, that's a new post in itself!

Stay tuned, to the heavenly delights of cashmere...ooohhh cashmere....
